Measuring for your gate

Swing Gate/s

When measuring for a swing gate/s, measure from inside post to post and the height you require the gate to be. Using BMG's adjustable hinges, we take off 100mm from the opening size for a single gate to allow for the hinges, which gives 80mm on the hinge side and 20mm on the closing side. Double gates we take off 180mm from the opening size which will give you 80mm on each hinge side and 20mm gap between each gate in the closed position.

Slide Gate

When measuring for a sliding gate, measure from inside post to post and add on another 200mm for the gate to sit behind your posts. The extra 200mm will allow for your gate catcher and guide bracket to be mounted to the back of your posts. We also allow another 250mm tails top and bottom which will allow for a gate opener to sit back clear off the driveway. When measuring the height of your gate, take note that once your wheels are inserted into the bottom of your gate frame and sitting on the track this will bring your gate height up another 40mm.

Slide gate setup

The sliding gate set up, shows you the extra 100mm over hang at each end of the gate behind the posts plus the tails for the motor and guide bracket.

Single swing gate setup

With a single swing gate, we take off 100mm from the inside post to post measurement which gives 80mm on the hinge side and 20mm on the closing side. Place a stop in the closed position for the gate to close up onto (very important when installing a gate opener onto your gate). When installing hinges, its always a good idea to start with heavy duty hinges and attach them by bolting all the way through the post if possible. This will help you in the future if and when installing a gate opener onto your gate and preventing your gate ever wanting to pull out of the post. If installing a gate opener its highly recommended that your post is concreted into the ground a minimum of 500mm.

Double swing gate setup

With double swing gates, we take off 180mm from the opening size which will give you 80mm on each hinge side and 20mm gap between each gate in the closed position. Place a stop in the closed position in the middle of the driveway for the gates to close up onto (very important when installing a gate opener onto your gates).
